About Us

Our History

Surrey Marble and Granite was set up by Cedric Mattock in 2000. Initially, we only dealt with the trade but since 2004 we have been supplying customers directly with beautiful stone work surfaces and flooring predominantly for kitchens and bathrooms. We also specialise in more ambitious projects such as staircases, fireplaces or even the interiors of superyachts.

The business has expanded rapidly, with 23 years of trading and over 30 years of experience in stone manufacture and installation, we now occupy 3 units on the Fernhust Trading Estate just outside Fernhurst in Surrey and employ over 20 staff.

Our aim is to continue to delight our customers with the quality of our workmanship, we hope to continue to grow and prosper.

  • Cedric Mattock

    Owner & Managing Director

    Cedric began working within the stone industry in 1987 as a trainee surveyor and contracts manager. He gained further experience over 13 years working on prestigious projects in all aspects of the manufacture and installation of marble, granite, and limestone projects.

    Cedric Incorporated Surrey Marble and Granite (SMG) in August 2000 and has developed the company over the last 23 years into an established and respected specialist manufacturer and supplier of all types of natural and man-made stone products.

  • Elliot Hobson

    Director

    Elliot has been with SMG for over 15 years. Elliot spent 5 years running the saw and 2 years as a stone mason. His experience and knowledge has allowed him to progress within the company and now has a directors role.

  • Liz

    Accounts & Finance Director

    Liz joined Surrey Marble & Granite in 2018.

    Originally a Chartered Surveyor, Liz worked for HM Valuation Office compensating home owners for the adverse effects of the M25. She was also part of the team revaluing assets at Deepcut Barracks for the Army.

    Liz then moved to London and managed a property portfolio for Christie’s Auctioneers before switching to the accounts department of the same company and later to completely different sectors such as Events, Jewellery & Roofing before becoming part of the team at SM&G where she very much hopes to stay.

  • Tom Hobson

    Director, Operations and Logistics Coordinator, Health and Safety Representative

    Tom started with the company when he was 17 as a sawyer and Thibaut operator. He has worked in all areas of the company, polishing on the tools, onsite installations to company foreman for a number of years. He can run all the shop machinery and has a vast knowledge of all the different materials and good experience of tooling. Tom now works in the office as manager and director.

  • Kevin Johnson

    Director

    Kevin’s been part of the Surrey Marble and Granite team since 2003. After working in retail management and sales, he made the move to our sector for a change of pace and new challenges. Many of the skills he honed in his previous roles transferred seamlessly, but diving into the manufacturing industry opened up a whole new world for him.

    What Kevin loves most about the marble and granite industry is its constant evolution. With new materials, trends, and client demands always emerging, there’s never a dull moment. At Surrey Marble, Kevin feels like part of a close-knit family. Our focus on providing clients with a personalised service perfectly aligns with his values and keeps him motivated every day.

The Team

Hello from the Surrey Marble and Granite team! Our lovely team includes our experienced, friendly fitters who attend your home to measure up the template for the cutting of your stone, and who will return to fit once ready.

It’s important to know you are in safe hands, some of our fitters have been with us since we started the company in 2000, some 23 years and counting. All work is carried out by actual employees of Surrey Marble & Granite. All our employees are experienced, highly skilled stone masons.
